A step by step history
Using an articulated skeleton I have here in the studio for teaching purposes, I glued the 1/4 inch pegs onto the skull dictated by the predetermined layout. You will note that the locations are symmetrical about the centerline. Each peg was cut to the necessary size, in millimeters.

The armature used in this case was a piece of 2X2 spruce heavily varnished to keep the oils from the plastilene from being absorbed by the wood.I used a medium consistency red plastilene cut into 1/8 inch slices and laid onto the armature.

This skull was of a young lady in her early twenties. The teeth were perfect and showed little wear. Though not professionally trained in forensic medicine ,I am able to determine the sex of the subject and can approximate the age fairly close. I began to lay in the muscalature of the head keeping in mind that the female will have more delicate features than the male. I was able to proceed rapidly.

The following pages show the progress of this activity. The piece was to be used for demonstration purposes which is evident by the more finished look of one side over the other.
